Are Prismacolor Pencils the Secret Ingredient to Elevate Your Coloring Game?

Prismacolor pencils are my favorite colored pencils to use whenever I am drawing, sketching, or coloring. They have always been my go-to pencil. The smoothness and vibrancy of their colors make them a joy to work with. I love that Prismacolors blend easily and feel almost more like an oil pastel over a traditional colored pencil.

Today, I decided to see how they would do on one of the coloring pages from Lux Art Books. The page I decided to work on is from Art Nouveau: a coloring book for teens and adults. This one gave me Belle vibes from Beauty and the Beast and I really enjoyed coloring it with that in mind. Prismacolor pencils allowed me to achieve a very nice blend of colors and were easy to work with.

On the one hand, they are high-quality pencils that can create

fine details and blend well. They have a huge color selection, are well-known, and are easy to find in most stores.

On the other hand, they can be more expensive than other brands, and they require frequent sharpening to maintain the fine point needed for those details. The softness of the pencil means they wear done fairly quickly especially if you apply a lot of pressure, as I do, which means more sharpening. You can go through pencils often which again adds to the cost. The good thing is most art supply stores sell Prismacolors individually, and you can stock up on your most used colors. In my opinion, the quality and versatility of Prismacolor pencils make them a worthy investment.

Truth be told, the first time I used Prismacolors, I never touched any other brand of colored pencils after that. I would love to hear from you: Do you have a preferred brand of colored pencils? Any tips or tricks for coloring with pencils or do you prefer a different medium entirely?
